3d Ultrasound: What to Know Before Your Appointment
When Do You Have A 3D Ultrasound?
A 3D ultrasound is the only way that you can get a glimpse of your baby’s face before he or she is born. And because of this, most parents can’t wait to have it. Alas, though, it’s not something that is taken within the first five months of your pregnancy.
Doctors usually write an order for it during the sixth month, when the facial features of the baby are already fully-developed.
Is it covered by insurance? That depends on whether or not your doctor recommends it. Most insurance companies do cover it with doctor recommendation. However, it will not pay for an ultrasound that is given at a non-medical venue like a shopping mall. But then again, no doctor will ever tell you to go to a shopping mall to have it.
What is a 3D ultrasound? It is like any other ultrasound except that the echoes generate a 3D image of the baby inside, unlike regular ultrasound that only generates a flat 2D image. How much does it cost? It’s not cheap at $99 at the very least. But then again, if your doctor recommends it, you would have nothing to pay.
The Joy Of Getting A 3D Baby Ultrasound
When you want to make sure that you are getting the best care for your child, you also want to make sure that you get as many chances as possible to bond with your child before they are born. This is why so many parents are so happy to get a 3d baby ultrasound and be able to see their child from every possible angle. In this way, the parents know exactly how their child is developing and are also able to see if there are any changes, making their child seem much more real before it finally comes out into the world.
Many places that offer this type of ultrasound will allow the parents to take home a digital copy of the rendering, letting them look over their child at home again and again. It gives a much better idea of the size of the child and doesn’t have as many issues with seeing the baby if they are in a strange position as a traditional ultrasound will run into. This makes it so that parents aren’t disappointed at these kind of appointments and are able to bond with their child well before they are born.
How Much Does A 3D Ultrasound Cost?
A 3D ultrasound costs around $99. The price can vary depending on duration, how many pictures you want, and if you want a DVD. If you think it’s expensive, it is. Thankfully, insurance covers it but, and this is a big but, you will need a doctor’s recommendation for insurance to pay.
You can get ultrasound at non-medical centers but they’re not covered by insurance.
Fortunately, most ob-gyn doctors are not Scrooges. They understand the excitement of expecting parents getting a preview of what their baby looks like. So, if you are expecting and you want to take a look at your baby before he or she comes out, ask for a doctor’s written recommendation.
A 3D ultrasound is just like any other ultrasound. What we mean is that the technology is the same as regular ultrasound; however, the image created is much more vivid and is three-dimensional. Therefore, you are able to see distinctive features on the face.
If you are like most people, you are probably whether or not it is safe? As far as we can tell, it is. If it weren’t safe, doctors would not recommend it for pregnant women.
